Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC signs Cincinnati locals Terry Nicholl and Alan Grothaus as coaching staff for inaugural season in 2014

 

CINCINNATI, OH December 26, 2013 – The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC has signed Terry Nicholl and Alan Grothaus as the Head Coach and Assistant Coach for the men’s soccer team that starts play in the Premier Development League of the USL (United Soccer League) in 2014. They will be supported by Jack Hermans, who is also the Assistant Coach of the Dayton Dutch Lions FC.

 

Terry Nicholl played professionally for many years for clubs in England (Crewe Alexandra, Sheffield United – Premier League -, and Gillingham) and the U.S. (Wichita Wings) before coaching at Memphis Storm, Wichita Wings, Dayton Dynamo, and Cincinnati Excite. Currently he coaches the U-16, U-17 Gold and U-20 of Cincinnati United Premier. Terry holds the National Full F.A. Badge license. A few of his accomplishments include winning the AISA Coach of the Year twice, playing in over 500 professional games, and coaching 275 pro games. On the youth side Nicholl has 11 State Cup Championships in 9 seasons, 4 Disney Championships, Regional Championships, and a U.S. National League Championships in 2012.

 

“I am looking forward to working with the Dutch Lions FC and working closely with Alan and Jack to bringing in the top local collegiate talent,” Nicholl remarked. “Add to that the most promising CUP talent, and some outstanding young players from Holland, we should create an exciting international brand of PDL soccer here in Cincinnati.”

 

Alan Grothaus was a four-year starter for NKU and played professionally for the Cincinnati Cheetahs. He is currently Assistant DOC and Coach of the U-9 and U-10 Boys at Cincinnati United Southeast. He has also served as Director of Soccer Operations for Cincinnati Soccer Alliance and Director of Coaching for MTSC. In 2006 he was awarded OSYSA Boy’s Youth Coach of The Year. Alan holds the National Youth Coaching License.
