Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC Bring Home a Point Against Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors SC

Cincinnati, OH, May 24 2014 The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC got close to pick up another 3 points on the road leading 1-0 until the 94th minute when Fubara scored the equalizer at Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors Saturday night at the East River Soccer Complex.

The first half saw the Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC (1-0-2) score in the thirteenth minute when forward Jeff McClure got slightly behind the King’s Warriors’ defense. His shot clipped the far post and skimmed into the net, and Cincinnati grabbed a 1-0 lead. Kyle Smith assisted on the Dutch Lions’ goal.  Dutch Lions goalie Eric Oswald frustrated the King’s Warriors all evening long making one spectacular save after another.

Leading 1-0, Cincinnati had a solid chance to score again midway through the second half. McClure had a breakaway but King’s Warriors’ goalkeeper Jonathan “Boo” Davis got a hand on McClure’s effort to knock the shot away. Davis, making his first start of the season, had two saves for Southern West Virginia.

The King’s Warriors (1-0-1) pressed the action in the second half, outshooting the Dutch Lions 6-2 in the final 45 minutes, but Lions defense and Keeper Oswald held strong. The pressure became too much however when in the last minute, the Warrior’s Itode Fubara’s  scored the equalizer. Southern West Virginia outshot Cincinnati 9-5 for the game.

Coach Terry commented: “Eric Oswald was our MVP tonight making many fantastic saves and anchoring another very stringy defense. The defense was only beaten by an incredible shot from long distance in the dying minutes of the game. Our players put forth another great effort for 90 minutes. Jeff McClure once again found the back of the net for his third goal in three games. “

The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC will be in action again at home on Friday, May 30th against the West Virginia Chaos at 7pm at Xavier University Soccer Stadium. They host Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors on Saturday, June 7 at 7pm at Xavier University Soccer Stadium and again at home on Wednesday, June 11th at 7pm. For tickets and information go to
