Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC Lose in the Final Minutes 1-2

Cincinnati, OH, July 3 2014 – The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC (5-1-3) traveled to play the SC United Bantams (1-8-2) at the University of South Carolina. This would be the second meeting between these teams. Cincinnati came out on top in the first game, but SC United Bantams would score two in the last minutes of this game sending the Lions home without any additional points and their second loss of the season.

The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC came out and controlled much of the game with their passing and possession. They created opportunities and took shots, but they were unable to score until late in the second half. The SC United Bantams would create chances as well, but were unable to break through until the very end. Both teams would have their chances, but could not put the ball into the net and the first half would end scoreless.
In the second half, substitutions would come in and help determine the game. The first score would not be on the board until the eighty first minute when Kyle Grothaus would cross the ball and find Kevin Walker for the goal, giving Cincinnati the lead.  Only eight minutes later however, the SC United Bantams would tie the game with a great strike as  Elias Hatungimana would find Breeden Troyer for the score. The final minutes of stoppage would come from a breakaway as Bantam’s Steven Gonzalez would have the assist to Eric Suarez for the game winner. The Cincinnati Dutch Lions would lose to the SC United Bantams on the road by a score of 1-2.
It was an extremely disappointing loss stated Cincinnati’s Coach Terry Nicholls.” We took the lead with about eight minutes to go and gave up that lead in the last three minutes. Obviously, we are a bit disappointed. We had a good deal of possession and we created as many scoring opportunities as we would like.  We did get into a winning position, but then we just couldn’t see it out. They got the equalizer and then they got a winner. We hardly had a chance to restart. We weren’t quite as creative as I would like us to be, but overall we put ourselves in the winning spot, we just couldn’t come through to finish it out. Once again, we are making this a little harder than it needs to be. We should have just sealed off that game. So, we will have to regroup and get it right next weekend. ”

The Cincinnati Dutch Lions will (5-2-3) return home on Saturday, July 5th at 7:30pm to play the Carolina Dynamo (4-4-1) at Xavier University.
