CDL FC comes home empty handed, lose vs Carolina 3-1

Cincinnati, OH, July 13 2014. The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC (6-3-3) traveled to play their second game of a two game road trip this evening against the Carolina Dynamo (5-5-1). Unfortunately, tonight would be the second loss in two days for Cincinnati. They would come home from their road trip without additional points, sitting in second place in their division three points behind the leader.

The first half would fall Carolina’s way as they would come out strong on the offensive attack. In the fourteenth minute, Carolina’s Fitzpatrick Bokar would receive a ball from Brandt Bronico on the edge of the box. Bokar would shoot and Cincinnati’s keeper Dane Wilson would block the first shot, but Bokar would be there for the rebound and would put the ball into the right corner of the Cincinnati net to put the Dynamo into the lead. Carolina would score a second in the thirty seventh minute off a penalty kick. Cincinnati would go into the half without a goal and trailing by two.

The second half Cincinnati would press and in the seventy eighth minute Jeff McClure would find a loose bouncing ball at the nine yard line and would fire one into the back of the net past Carolina’s keeper Alex McCauley, putting the Lions within one. But Carolina would answer back and in the eighty first minute Reed Norton would receive a ball from Mamadee Nyepon and would slide between two defenders from twelve yards out putting the ball in and putting Carolina up by two again. The Lions would not be able to come back and the game would end with the Cincinnati Dutch Lions 1 and the Carolina Dynamo 3.

Cincinnati’s Coach Terry Nicholls about the game: “We changed up to a 4-4-2 with two target men up front. These two lads have outstanding speed so we were hopeful of taking advantage of the spaces over the top. We treated early on but could not take full advantage. They controlled the possession for most of the first half and took the lead after 15 minutes. Matt Hill was judged to have hand balled a goal bound attempt and the ref gave a pk. The second half we started brightly and we created some good opportunities. Unfortunately we were not able to take advantage until the 77th minute when Jeff McClure broke through and stroked the ball home after a fine pass from Garrett Halfhill. They took advantage of a defensive error to finish the game off in the last minutes.”

The Cincinnati Dutch Lions (6-4-3) finish off their regular season in Louisville, KY against the River City Rovers (3-7-3) on Saturday, July 19th at 7:30pm.  For tickets and information go to
