CDLFC Returns Three Core Veterans

Cincinnati, OHMonday May 11th, 2015 -Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC brings back core group of veterans Smith, Dupont, and Gumpert

The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC is proud to announce the return of three PDL veterans Kyle Smith, Christ Dupont and Logan Gumpert. All three were members of last year’s inaugural campaign, helping the Lions to a second place finish in the league.

Kyle Smith returns to the Dutch Lions after starting every game last summer. Smith is a 23-year-old central midfielder who can also stretch the field on the wings. While studying at Transylvania University, Smith started all 20 games he would play his senior year, while bagging 18 goals and 8 assists. Kyle had this to say about his return this summer to the Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC.

“I am excited to play with and against some of the best competition in the region.  It is always fun playing with new players who bring their own element and style of play to the team.  This year we have a lot of new players and I am excited to see how we will play together as a team and what kind of run we can make this season.”

Christ Dupont returns to the Lions after sharing the responsibility of captain last year for the club. The 6’1” central midfielder from Montreal, Quebec was a key cog in the midfield for the Dutch Lions FC. Dupont comes to the Lions with experience, playing collegiately at Write State University in Dayton, Ohio, while seeing soccer globally while studying at the US National Development in Geneva, Switzerland and playing for the FC Metz reserve squad in France. Chris had this to say about the upcoming season.

“I am exited about the upcoming season.  I think we have an extremely talented group that can accomplish lots of great things.”

Our third returning veteran for this years squad is Logan Gumpert. With the ability to play right back and winger, Gumpert played an important role for our young team last season. Before joining the Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC, Gumpert had experience playing for Cincinnati State and played for Coach Terry Nicholl for Cincinnati Cup youth soccer. Tyler is excited to be back playing again for the Dutch Lions after coming so close last season.

“I’m looking forward to playing another year of PDL with a lot of new but talented teammates. I believe everyone is expecting to do better this year and win the league after falling just short our first season. Having a passionate staff along with a team of driven individuals we’ll have a great opportunity to accomplish our goal.”

Coach Terry Nichol had this to say about his core group of veterans.

“Kyle Smith is one of the most consistent players we had last year. He is great on the ball, is an excellent passer, and can play multiple positions for us. I’m glad to have him back. Dupont is a very similar player to Kyle in how he plays the game…He is a quiet leader for us on the pitch, which makes him a contender for our captaincy this season. Logan Gumpert really came on strong last year in the second half. Starting as a midfielder, we moved him to fullback and he really did well creating opportunities while making overlapping runs.”

The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC open up their season this week versus the Carolina Dynamo at the Xavier University Soccer Complex. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM.
