CDLFC vs SC United Bantams Recap

Cincinnati – The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC faced off against the SC United Bantams at home at Xavier University in hot conditions Thursday evening. The teams entered the evening tied for fourth in the South Atlantic Division of the Premier Development League, sporting even records (1-3-1). Only one team was victorious tonight however, as Cincinnati won the game 1-0 earning their first win at home.

The battle began in the middle, where Cincinnati gained control early. Quick, crisp passing allowed the Lions to control possession and create the first opportunity. While SC United got several shots off during the first half, Cincinnati created numerous chances in the Bantams final third. Despite dominating play, the Lion’s crosses into the box went unanswered and the ball could not find the back of the net, sending the teams to the locker rooms scoreless.

SC United came out of halftime in full attack, immediately heading for Cincinnati’s goal. The plays were broken up however by the Lion’s defense. Cincinnati picked up the pace and pushed forward, shooting on the Bantam’s keeper, but the balls were tipped behind. Play went end to end, but goals were scarce.

That changed in the seventy-second minute when Cincinnati started a series of passes in the Bantams final third. Moving from right to left the Lions found Alejandro Garcia roming on the wings and he was able to connect with Christopher DuPont. DuPont placed the ball with precision and power into the left side netting to give the Lions the lead.

A corner in the eighty-third minute for the Lions found the head of Oriol Cortes. Cortes was able to get some power on his header, placing it near the crossbar, but an outstanding save by the Bantams keeper kept the game within reach.

SC United came at the Lions hard in the final minutes and Cincinnati’s keeper Dane Wilson came up with big saves to keep his team in the lead and to secure the second win in a row for the Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC.

Coach Jack Herman’s commented: “This win means a lot because it means we are on a winning streak. We want to keep this going of course. But I give a lot of credit to the other team as well. This is hard for them to come down here and have to play us again Saturday. We definitely have to be ready for that. I think overall, we deserved it somewhat, although the last ten minutes we made it hard on ourselves. We were a little bit undisciplined. We need to work on that part. But, overall very pleased with the work ethic, very pleased with the decision making and we were definitely organized all over the field. “

The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC play the SC United Bantams again on Saturday, June 13th at 5pm at Xavier University. They travel to WC Hawkins Stadium at Irmo High School on Saturday June 19th to play the SCUnited Bantams at 8pm.
