CDL falls despite good showing

The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC, (0-1-0) started their 2017 season, with a 1-0 home loss, versus the West Virginia Chaos (1-1-1). After a 25 minute weather delay, the clouds cleared up, the sun came out and 300 fans where ready to watch a good game of soccer.

From kick off the fans had the opportunity to see two completely different teams with a very different approach to the game. While the home team dominated possession and applied pressure on the ball high up the field, the visiting team packed it in, while looking to create something on the counter, through the speed and creativity of #10 Eddy Millien and #18 Jesus Ibarra. Quickly Chaos’s game plan worked as a through pass from James Smith, in the 4th minute, reached Jesus Ibarra who put it past Cincinnati’s GK Zeus de La Paz, in one of the few shots (3 with 2 on goal) for the West Virginia Chaos. From that moment on it was chance after chance for the home team who, after 18 shots (10 on goal) were unable to find the back of the net and suffered a very undeserved loss.

“Tonight we hate the game that we all love…”, said Cincinnati’s Head Coach Sid van Druenen, “West Virginia came here with a plan and, unfortunately for us, it worked. They scored early, packed it in and we were unable to respond with a goal despite the many chances we created. I am very proud of the effort my team put in today, they kept working and believing in our style and besides the goal conceded we dominated for the other 89 minutes. We gave it our all, finished with 4 strikers on the field but it wasn’t meant to be. Heads up and on to the next game!”

The Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC will face the Dayton Dutch Lions FC on Saturday May 27th and return home again on May 30th to face the Derby City Rovers.
